Happy Anniversaries

There will be lots of fireworks going off both in Canada and in the USA this week. Enjoy the shows! And if you want to try to capture some of the bright lights, check out this great article. You might just want to sign up for the Digital Photography School weekly newsletter. It’s full of great articles with photo taking and post processing tips and gear reviews.

We had our own little ‘shoot’ last night. Happy Anniversary, Scott and Krista!

(By the way, I found the above mentioned article this morning so I’m looking forward to capturing our municipal display tonight. I’m going to try tip#15 for sure. Grabbing my tripod, remote shutter and bug jacket….)

June moon at dawn

The June ‘super moon’ was setting as we rose for work this morning. It may not look like a super moon but by the time it dropped to the horizon, the sun had brightened the sky so much the moon faded completely from view. I’ll share a few shots of it rising in my next post.

passing storm

The rumble of thunder at dusk drew me away from Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals. I grabbed my camera and tripod and set up with a finger on the shutter button to try to catch a lightning strike before the pending rain.

Got it!

The mosquitos were abundant and hungry in the calm air. Thankfully, I was reasonably well covered and held out for a few more shots before the wind and rain. Here are two more:

Oh, and the game went into overtime! Bonus.

Sunset Country

Spring brings a spectrum of colour as flowers burst with life.

The skies around here display a spectrum as well. If you didn’t see my video on Ignace Outposts’ YouTube channel, FaceBook or on The Weather Network (they insert a commercial, sorry)…

just soak in the snapshot below (straight out of the camera).

precious infant girl
We are thrilled to have a new grand daughter. She and her sister live a 2 1/2 hour drive away from me so every moment we can be together is precious!

I had the privilege recently of capturing her during a nap.

Lightroom Develop Mode

The above image has been post-processed.

When I first uploaded the RAW files, I was a saddened by the harshness of the images. The clarity emphasized a mild rash on her skin.

In Lightroom, I found a couple of settings that softened the overall look.

As you can see in the lower portion of this module, under “presence”, I reduced the clarity quite a bit.

By reducing vibrance, the shades of colour lighten a little.

Reducing saturation I got an even softer, lighter look.

The image below shows the original image on the left and the adjusted image on the right.

It turned into a much sweeter, dreamier image, don’t you think?

lines and curves study

One of the fishing expos we attended in January was housed in the conference center attached to the Renaissance Hotel in Schaumburg, IL. The meeting hall was typically plain but the hotel was strikingly attractive. It’s architecture and decor is unusual and appealing. It provided ample views for a study of lines and curves.
