Happy New Year! We’ve turned the page not only to a new month but a whole new year!
For Twenty-Fourteen I wish you adventures experienced, challenges conquered and dreams fulfilled.
Looking back over the previous year and ahead to the new one, I was inspired to create this year’s desktop calendar style.

Although the worst of winter may be ahead, I delight in the knowledge that from this point on the calendar forward the sun will rise sooner and set later. 🙂
The other evening, the air was crisp and clear, the sky clear blue and the water calm. The lake called me out from the shore. I’m glad I answered the call.
To get the star light glow of the setting sun, I set the f-stop as deep (or wide – I never am sure of the technical description) as I dared (f29) and shot when the sun was brightest poking through the pine bows. I was driving the motor boat alone as I shot so I cruised as low as possible past this point of land several times to capture the sun before it disappeared over the horizon.
It has been a challenging month for me. My computer and I were separated for all but a few days of August! Thankfully, family visits and work kept me sane. Taking photos in the meantime held no appeal for me since I was not able to do my post processing. My new computer and I are becoming acquainted as I reconnected with my digital stuff. Â It will be a while before I have retrieved all my files and folders from the external hard drive and online backups. I’m so glad I had several levels of digital storage. Where is your stuff backed up….?

This scene may look familiar to you. It was the foreground of moon shots I took in May.  You might even have the image as your July calendar desktop! 😉  I loved the graphic look of the trees and sky when the colour was removed from the image. I added a Radlab preset filter in Lightroom to bring out more contrast. Maybe I’ll send it out for printing…
