A “wow” moment

There are times when out with the camera, one chances upon a particular scene at a particular moment that once captured elicits only, “Wow!” For my friend, Amanda, it was snapping a heron catching and eating a large fish. Brad & I experienced such when observing a Caribou and her calf interact at Seseganaga Lake.

On Lilypad Lake this week getting shots of this blossom was, for me, another such moment.

Square?

Close examination of the water lilies opening reveals an interesting geometry. The leaves and petals are multiples of four! At this point (below) the blossom actually forms a square!

Paddle on the pond

Much of what I’ve read about photography relates to light. The best light, they say, is at sunrise and sunset. With this in mind, I grabbed the kayak and my camera and headed for an evening paddle on Lilypad Lake for some water lily shots.

The water surface was like glass and the sky gorgeous but the lilies had already put themselves to bed!

So.. I tried morning light (coffee break-ish) hoping to find the blossoms awake…I was delighted to watch (and snap) as the entire pond gradually filled with fragrant white blossoms around me!
Next post, I’ll share some of my faves. They will be worth the wait, I promise!

Fluff

I was fascinated with the orderliness of the seeds in the second image.  I think the first image is a truer representation of my world most days!
