Uncommon visitors

We are not on the direct flight path of Canada Geese but occasionally have a stray goose off course.  This year a pair must have got lost and decided Ignace was a suitable place to raise their family.

Coming in off the lake at dusk, we spotted some small birds feeding on insects on the surface of the calm lake. They were very quick as they did their dinner dance. I was surprised to capture anything of it and pleased at the result.

Fish for dinner

The other day we snuck up on a loon snoozing on our beach. He was just a little clumsy getting into the water!
We thought he might have been wounded by the look of the feathers on his head.

I think if anything, it was his pride that was wounded; he paddled off and we haven’t seen him since!

Lone Loon

A number of years ago, we had a pair of loons that would visit our bay in the summer. Unfortunately, one died. The widow (or widower) still comes to visit every now and then.
