Sweet solstice
Although the worst of winter may be ahead, I delight in the knowledge that from this point on the calendar forward the sun will rise sooner and set later. 🙂

weight-ing
As we eagerly wait for spring and the big melt, snow is falling heavily again!
So, while out for my morning walk in the blizzard, I used my iPhone to express myself…

We have experienced relatively light snowfall amounts over the past few winters. This year snows came abundantly and often. It has been a while since we had such accumulation. This seems to make winter last longer. So although the calendar tells us it is spring, our environment is still buried in the white stuff. Â This makes ‘off trail’ snowshoeing a challenge. When I spotted a scene I wanted to capture with my big camera, I had to track through almost knee deep snow to get there.
What had caught my eye in this mature spruce forest of stark vertical lines was a single birch with branches accentuated by fresh snow. Do you see it peeking out in the photo above?
The next time I was out that way (a few days later) the snow had fallen off. Except for the deep path, I would not have been able to find that lonely birch!
March 2013 desktop
The last couple of mornings have been magical! Heavy frost clung to everything. Brilliant sunshine danced off the lacy crystals creating a spectacular light show. Photos simply can not replicate the brilliance and intensity of such conditions. In the image below, the tiny pink dots are crystals reflecting the sunlight.
