Why does frost appear on the green more intensely than on the red?

This little piece of tree was only about 3″ across.

Using my 55-250 at maximum zoom allowed me to get a great look at the frost spikes.

Fuzzy Thistle

From abundant damp this spring sprung abundant thistles.
Not really attractive most of the summer, they close out the season pretty.
