June 2011 calendar

This images truly represents my world this time of year. It’s peak season for fly in outpost fishing adventures.
The pilot performing this beautiful landing in the DeHavilland Beaver is none other than my husband, Brad!

Morning song

Early the other morning, headed out in the Cessna to do some camp work, we taxied by a loon.  It was unafraid and continued singing its song.  I’ve never seen them lie so low in the water.  It looked, at first, more like a beaver or otter swimming than a loon.

There was no doubt about it being a loon when it reached up to stretch in the morning sun.

Back burner

Life’s been hectic as we ready for the season ahead.  Not much spare time for snapping pictures right now.  Vegetation is gradually greening up.  I spotted a pair of trumpeter swans nesting at a nearby lake….

Watching water freeze

Agimak Lake gradually opened up over the last few days. Today it is practically clear save what was blown into the bay.

Monday night the still air slowly dipped below zero Celcius with the golden, setting sun. While catching shots of the day’s final rays of light on the texture of ice in the bay, spikes and feathers of ice grew before my eyes!

Unthaw

I know.  I know that’s not a word … but it truly describes what happens at the edges of opening lakes and streams when temperatures dip below freezing overnight!

Not soon enough

Although the ground outside my house is still frozen solid and covered with snow, I eagerly await the colours of spring.  My April desktop calendar is ready for your enjoyment.  For the image size that best fits your screen, go to the Free Calendar tab at the top of the page or click here.
