Shadows

Can you guess where this is?

Gaps between the dock boards allow snow to drop through creating a heating vent kind of look.

First and last

The first flakes of wet snow cling to the last of my little maple’s leaves.

Name that shape

Over time snow piled on tree branches can take some pretty unusual shapes.  Depending on the angle, they can look amazingly like something identifiable.  Trying to figure out reminds me of playing the same game in summer with big white puffy clouds.

Anyone else see a squirrel here?

Extra [cool] flaps!

Flaps on an airplane wing alter air flow either assisting with or decreasing lift depending on how they are set.  This aircraft parked in our yard had for a brief time some very decorative flaps as melting snow slipped off the airframe.

Lacy pieces of snow-turned-ice extended upward at a gravity defying angle.

So precarious was this overhang, that it collapsed while I was snapping! Boy, did I jump at the sight (through the viewfinder) and the sound!
