turning point

it only takes one cold, wet day in August to remind us that summer’s end is near.

First and last

The first flakes of wet snow cling to the last of my little maple’s leaves.

Fortuitous forgetfulness

While visiting good friends in Stonewall, Manitoba recently, we departed inadvertently leaving stuff behind.  We were less than 10 minutes enroute when my cell phone rang to inform us about our forgetfulness.   It was a misty morning with temperatures around freezing.  When we turned around, I asked my hubby to drop me on the side of the road with my camera bag and to pick me upon his return.  My November desktop image was taken at that time.  I was looking to capture a misty forest scene but was treated to some great frosty shots.

Here’s the attempt at misty, clouded trees:

Not quite what I was looking for.

Instead, I was thrilled to find the touches of frost.

Drive by #3 – corn

Traveling through lush farm land on the east side of Lake Huron, I couldn’t wait to find a picturesque corn field.  It took a couple of stops to find locations conducive for the views I thought I’d like.  We still had ‘places to go and people to see’ so I snapped fast.

Check out how cool the base of the stalks look!

Drive by #2 – oak

My recent road trip companions have been very patient with me even to the point of allowing for the occasional stop!  At a wayside rest along Highway 75 in Michigan, I was able to enjoy (and capture) some fall oak.  Oaks are rare in my neighbourhood!
